We saw it differently; believing clients look to their consultants to be trusted advisers; people they know, who are the best in their field and who come to any situation with only their clients’ interests at heart.
We were ambitious from the start. We wanted to be held in the highest regard and to attract the very best people. It’s a model that has served us well.
Even in the early days, clients have always came to us at their most critical times. When they had a big opportunity to go after, or a tough challenge to address. For example, we helped build the National Lottery Charities Board – the forerunner of the Big Lottery Fund – which became the largest grant-making organisation in the world. And we were there when trading business Liffe went electronic for the first time, a technology project which had profound implications, not just for the organisation itself, but for London as Europe’s financial centre.
With a number of sizeable projects under our belt, the time was right to stretch oursleves and seek out new challenges. Clients increasingly looked to us as highly experienced and able people who could work with them in a supportive and collaborative way. And so followed ten years of expanding our sector footprint, first into Retail, Financial Services and Energy, and then further into the significant Healthcare and Consumer Products sectors, and several others too.
Along the way, we've added many great new clients to our Berkeley family: In 2001, we started working with one of the world's largest energy groups. Our relationship has grown strongly since then, and we continue to support this client on its most substantial projects.
We were introduced to CPG company Unilever in 2007, and have worked with them ever since on global projects. We've helped them tackle everything from transforming financial reporting to shaping how they use business information to support their growth agenda.
We completed our first of several projects for Royal Mail in 2009, as they launched new products and embraced emerging technologies to address the threats and opportunities posed by customers who increasingly communicate and purchase online.
More recently, we’ve been working at the heart of the strategic business transformation of the Post Office, and we’re continuing to drive change in the health sector too, supporting the ever changing NHS.
We know there’s still lots out there for us to achieve. But we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and look back on 1990 as being a very good year.
