First 100 days - coaching for senior executives
Whether you have recently been promoted to a senior role, or have moved to one in another organisation, you will be acutely aware that what you do in the first 100 days is crucial to your success.
But how do you prioritise where to spend your time? Getting this right is key and yet there are so many potential pitfalls;
- Focusing on those tasks that are more naturally in your comfort zone - continuing to do your old job and not ‘stepping up’ a level to meet the needs of the new role:
- Being sucked into fire-fighting immediate issues at the expense of spending time thinking about the longer term direction; and
- Being tempted to demonstrate that you are ‘in charge’ at the expense of understanding what really needs to be done and building the allies you will need to achieve it.
Above all, a leader in a new role needs to find the time to listen, to build relationships and to think.
Berkeley's unique approach to supporting you at this time
Working as management consultants Berkeley people take on new roles perhaps two or three times a year, often at different clients.
They know what it takes to quickly become effective in completely new environments facing unfamiliar challenges. You will be facing exactly these issues in your new role, but it may have been some time since you last made a similar transition.
Berkeley offers short coaching support for senior executives in these situations. By combining practical skills developed over years of working in different client organisations with an understanding of best coaching practice their consultants can provide an effective, unique service.
They are not afraid of giving direct advice. This is radically different from a traditional coaching approach where it is left up to you to come to your own decisions. This takes time, a luxury you don't have.
Michael Mahony, one of Berkeley's partners, leads Berkeley’s coaching service. He is a qualified coach with a Diploma in Clinical Organisational Psychology from INSEAD and has been working as a management consultant for over 20 years.
Approach
Berkeley’s approach is to offer 6 one to one sessions. Typically the sessions will occur every three weeks, but this can be tailored to your specific circumstances following an initial assessment meeting.
