Pete Basham
Consultant
A degree in electronic engineering at the University of Western Australia led me into a career in Phillips Consumer Electronics. After 5 years of developing DVD players and tinkering with TVs, a change in career direction was achieved by way of an MBA from London Business School in 1997.
My career in consulting thus began at Deloitte, where I developed my skills and experience in large programme delivery. Being in their telecoms practice in the late 90’s was a hairy time - for every Vodafone, there was a Global Crossing or an MCI Worldcom in my project history! I learnt a lot about what it takes to deliver technical, process and organisation change in tough business environments. Working with, and motivating, project teams to work through complex, ever-changing challenges, sweating blood for the cause, but enjoying the satisfaction of successful delivery is what initially drew me in to consulting, and has kept me there ever since.
I joined Berkeley in 2004, and have continued to deliver major transformation programmes for a global oil group and for Centrica. I’m not the type for the airy-fairy blue sky thinking, I like to roll my sleeves up and deliver, and Berkeley have offered me the opportunity to do this in spades. Outside of work, you’ll most likely catch me at the sharp end of a 35 foot yacht in the Solent, or racing across the Channel.
