Ed Brunning

Financial Controller

After graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in Accounting & Finance, it was a natural step to move into an accountancy career.  I joined what is now RSM Tenon and qualified as a Chartered accountant 3 years later.

After quickly deciding against a future in auditing, I made the move into industry and joined TSL, the educational publishing arm of News International.  I spent 5 ½ years in various roles at TSL, which provided me with diverse experience including two private equity buyouts, substantially expanding the finance function, managing systems implementation and upgrades, as well as pushing through a significant programme of rationalisation.

I decided to leave for a sabbatical, during which I travelled extensively, visiting some fascinating places including Mongolia, Rapa Nui, the Galapagos and Patagonia, before returning to take on the role of Financial Controller with a privately owned contemporary art gallery.  After guiding them through a difficult period and developing a business plan for new ventures, I sought a different type of challenge.   It was at this point that I came across Berkeley and I joined as FC in May 2010.  The Berkeley ethos was immediately appealing and the chance to shape and develop the role of the finance function is a fantastic opportunity.

Outside of work, I currently live in East Dulwich with Susie, although I look forward to shortly relocating to somewhere that will allow me to indulge my passion for fast and impractical cars.  I’m a keen sportsman of the armchair variety and my desire to travel and experience different cultures remains strong.
