I have been consulting for over twelve years now, initially with Accenture and most recently with Berkeley. It has all been very different from my first job however, where I worked as a Safety Engineer with British Nuclear Fuels. What else would you do with a Masters in Chemical Engineering from The University of Birmingham and another one from Sheffield University (in Process Safety and Loss Prevention of all things)?!
My most recent work has been with the Department of Health and the NHS. It has been a major change from my previous consultancy assignments, traditionally with the big retail banks. The NHS is without doubt the most complex organisation I’ve ever worked in and the most rewarding as well. The challenge is to balance the delivery of a quality and safe service to patients whilst running the service like a modern business. A tough job to get right, but one that plays to my greatest strength, which I believe is my ability to bring balance to situations, carefully considering the options before committing to a plan of action.
I’m married to Alison with a daughter, Bethan. When I’m not at work I love spending time with my family and I live for sport. Not playing it though, I think my time for that has passed, just watching it! Although I did play a season of national league basketball, so I’ve earned my right to watch from a distance now.
