After completing an engineering degree at Edinburgh University, I knew I wanted a business-focused career. To keep my options open, I moved to London and joined Deloitte as a graduate in their accountancy practice. 3 years later, I qualified as a chartered accountant and joined their consulting team, attracted by the variety of cutting edge work. Working for a Deloitte gave me the opportunity to travel and work abroad. I spent three years working in the USA, most of which was as a project manager on a major enterprise resource planning programme for an engineering and construction company.
After ten years, I was beginning to feel pigeonholed by repetitive assignments and was tired of constantly being away from home. Berkeley came out of the blue and I was attracted by a greater variety of work, plus the chance to spend more of my time in and around London. It was a bit of a leap of faith at the time but I haven’t looked back since.
I joined Berkeley in 2004 and became a Partner in 2009. Since joining, I’ve spent most of my time working in the energy, resources and transportation sectors, taking on delivery responsibility for some major programmes, often in a turnaround capacity. It’s all been very different, but also very rewarding.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my kids, watching Ulster and Ireland win at rugby, and hacking small white balls around a field in a manner that occasionally resembles golf.
