Careers at Berkeley

Joining the Berkeley Partnership in New York is a chance to be part of an exciting growth story, where we have a fast-expanding client mix across a variety of dynamic industries. Our New York team have all enjoyed success in larger firms, but were attracted to Berkeley for a variety of reasons that make us distinct from other consultancies. A focus on “actual consulting” rather than driving sales targets. Working side by side with senior clients on their most strategic and complex challenges.  And shaping our culture as each and every employee is intrinsic to how we take our business forward.

The Berkeley Partnership experience

Why Berkeley?

Our ethos of ‘Doing the right thing for all Berkeley people’, sits at the heart of everything we do. Our unique company setup and vibrant social scene allow our people to enjoy themselves, do the best possible client work and develop at pace towards their potential. We’re proud to have gained our Great Place to Work accreditation this year too, and 100% of our New York employees agreed with the statement that Berkeley is a Great Place to Work!

Our ethos

Our ethos sits at the heart of the business. We value positive energy, community, rigor, simplicity, respect and challenge. Our warm, open culture of belonging enables our people to fulfil their potential, no matter what their background. We welcome fresh thinking, and diversity of background and perspective.

Our values

The firm is designed to set up and support our values. We have a simple organization structure and a flat hierarchy. There are no sales targets, and little internal bureaucracy. The work is often stretching, and our people are encouraged to reach out for help, and to support others in turn. Consultants are highly trusted and have freedom, but partners are close on hand for guidance and support as needed. We have grown since we were established in 1990, but these fundamentals have endured.

Our culture

We invest lots of time and energy in a vibrant and wide-ranging social scene. This is because it’s great fun - and because it helps us work better together. You can do as much or as little as you want, but there’s always plenty to choose from: from book club to karaoke, from cycling to wine tasting. We also have lots of work-related get-togethers to keep everybody well-connected and informed. For example, we hold monthly meetings for the whole business and regular lunch discussions on topics relevant to Berkeley.

Our benefits

Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to make sure you know just how much we value your work and give you the support you need. You’ll start with us on a competitive salary, and you can look forward to annual pay rises that reflect your personal development. Plus we offer everyone:

  • 30 days PTO plus 8 national holidays
  • 4% 401k employer contribution
  • Private medical insurance (with full family cover and no monthly co-pay)
  • Life insurance
  • Five discretionary days per annum to work with our charity partners
  • 16 -18 weeks paid maternity leave on full pay (available from day one)
  • Two weeks paid paternity leave on full pay (available from day one)
  • Cell phone and laptop of your choice
  • Flexible working option - some of our people work part time to balance work and home commitments.

Respect for your life outside of work

We know a career in consulting is often challenging and sometimes all-consuming. But we’re focused on getting to smart outcomes rather than hours on the job. We recognize when being face-to-face with a client really matters – but we also know how sometimes working from home has made many of our lives better. We recognize our people have a constantly changing range of life circumstances. Some of our consultants and partners work part-time, and we support flexible working arrangements.
