1Why did you join Berkeley?

The Berkeley culture has always been one that I’ve admired – there is a strong focus on working closely with clients to deliver their ambition as one team, providing experience and addressing the challenges head on to deliver long-lasting change.

Having spent ten years at a Big 4 Consulting practice, there was a growing emphasis on moving towards specializing in an industry or capability based on the work I had done to date, which didn’t quite suit the nature of the transferable skills I was looking to adopt. Berkeley offers consultants the opportunity to work across a variety of sectors and types of work, which is something I’ve always relished, in a strongly supportive environment that encourages us to continue to learn and build our experiences.

There’s also a strong emphasis on the Berkeley community, which has meant getting to know who we all are at work and at home. The induction period alone included dedicated time to get to know Partners and Consultants which was thoroughly enjoyable and was really refreshing. In addition, there are multiple groups, socials and community events that make for a great atmosphere.

2What types of engagements excite you the most?

I love working with clients to deliver their transformation strategy, implementing the drivers that will truly change the way they operate going forward in a structural way. As someone who is quite process driven, I really enjoy working through uncertainty to support a methodological approach to risk management and delivery.

3Why did you become a management consultant?

I studied Economics and Management at University, and a career in management consulting was one of the natural routes to take. Initially, I didn’t quite know what to expect but what I found was a world where I could work with senior stakeholders to deliver real, hard change for the wider good. I’ve loved the variety of work and the breadth of experiences I’ve had across sectors; there’s a real buzz about being in the trenches with a client and seeing visible outcomes that you have directly contributed to.
